2015 Richard M. Bellis Scholarship application is now available

- Friday, February 20, 2015

The 2015 application for the Richard M. Bellis Scholarship is now available.

Richie was a great athlete as he was a baseball all-star in Sandwich Little League and Sandwich Babe Ruth, played on the Sandwich High School baseball and golf teams, and played Sandwich Pop Warner football. Richie was also an outstanding snow skier and snowboarder. He had a passion for the freedom and thrill of riding his dirt bike, and had many friends due to his great smile, sense of humor and outgoing personality.

The Richard M. Bellis Scholarship is sponsored by Sandwich Little League and is awarded each year to deserving male and female athletes who reside in the town of Sandwich and will be entering college as a freshman the fall of that year.

The application must be submitted online and supporting documentation must be postmarked to Sandwich Little League by June 1. The winners will be selected and notified after their applications are reviewed by the Richard M. Bellis Scholarship Committee.

Submit an application.

Registration open for Spring 2015 youth baseball and softball

- Tuesday, December 9, 2014
Registration is now open for youth baseball and softball for the Spring 2015 season.

For our baseball minor leagues - for players turning 5, 6 or 7 this year as determined by Little League International date of birth guidelines -- the cost is $60 for T-ball, A or AA leagues.

The cost for baseball players ages 8 and above is $100 for registrations submitted by Feb. 1, and will be $125 thereafter.

This year, the board has approved new rules for AAANational and American league age eligibility. The board's goal is to improve the playing experience and learning potential across all leagues while also insuring a minimum of six teams in each league. We invite you to read the rules posted on the Forms & Docs page of our Web site. Further communication to the impacted age groups will be coming soon.

Softball, which abides by Amateur Softball Association rules, has two divisions: Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8. The softball teams will play each other and against teams from other towns. Cost is $100.

Girls in kindergarten through second grade should register for the appropriate age level of T-ball or baseball.

Click on the Registration link to get started with signing your child up for the 2015 season. If you would like to purchase a registration as a gift for a grandchild or family friend, start at our new Online Store.

We can't wait to see you on the fields this spring, but in the meantime have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

March 21 Information Meeting

- Thursday, March 26, 2015

Here is the information we shared for the March 21 information meeting for ages 8 and below:

AAA Commissioner: Chris Richards, crichards@capecodfive.com, 508-776-5996

AA Commissioner: Patrick Roy, pjroy80@comcast.net, 508-737-8165

A Commissioner: Jim Barrasso, jbarrasso@sturgischarterschool.org, 508-212-7854

Rookie Ball Commissioner: Glenn Christensen, gconthecape@msn.com, 781-831-7339

Opening Day Parade is Sunday, April 26th at noon.  Parade starts at the fire station on Rt 6A and ends at the AL2 field by the concession stand. Parade will be followed by the Opening Day Ceremony on the field, and a hot dog picnic around the gazebo while games get under way.

Practices/Games for Rookie and A ball begin the weekend after the parade. There will be 7 combined practice/games scheduled for Saturday.

Practices for AA and AAA baseball will start in April (exact date will depend on condition of the fields) and games will start the week after the parade. Schedule is still in progress, but expect games each Saturday. AA will have an occasional weeknight game, and AAA will have at least one weeknight game per week, most frequently on Mondays..

All players through Little League age 8 (born in 2007) are assigned to a team and the coaches will contact you within a couple of weeks.

Equipment: Players are provided with game jerseys and hats. Players are responsible for baseball pants, cleats and gloves (not that clears are necessary at the youngest age levels). Batting helmets and bats are provided by the league but you are welcome to bring your own. We do require that the helmets include face masks.

Calendar Raffle: This fundraiser is the biggest opportunity to offset the cost of running the league and keep our fees low. People that purchase a $10.00 calendar raffle tickets are entered into a drawing with a cash prize winner everyday in the month of May. Several days have prizes donated by sponsors.

All players are expected to sell at least one book of 5 tickets for $10 per ticket. Ticket stubs and $50 should be returned to the coach the week prior to the parade. All players that sell their 5 tickets are entered into a drawing for some great prizes at the Opening Day Ceremony. The more books you sell, the more opportunities to win prizes.

Field Day is scheduled for March 28 starting at 8 a.m., though it may be delayed because of the snow still on the fields. Stay tuned for an email update. This is when Sandwich Little League coaches, players and families prepare the facilities for the season. There's trash cleanup, hanging of sponsor signs, batting cage set-up, repairs, and more to be done at the Wing School fields. The more people we have, the less time we have to spend out there as a group. Even if you can only come for a couple of hours, it helps.
