Thank you to SHS softball and baseball

- Monday, May 25, 2015
Thank you to Sandwich High School's varsity softball and baseball teams for leading clinics with our players over the last two weekends. We had two dozen softball players attend the clinic at the high school two weeks ago. Led by Head Coach Bob Sullivan, alumna Julianna Ferguson, and 9 of the varsity girls, the players ran through a variety of drills. Yesterday, 61 SLL baseball players attended a clinic led by Head Coach Brian Tomasini and a dozen and a half high school players -- many fresh off having attended their prom the night before. Drills were run at all three of our fields, and as you can tell from the photos, a lot of fun was had by younger and high school players alike.

More photos can be found on our Facebook page and Instagram.

Sandwich U12s win Cape Cod Girls Softball League

- Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Congratulations to the Sandwich U12 summer softball team, which earned its second consecutive championship in the Cape Cod Girls Softball League.

Sandwich entered the 2014 playoffs with a first-round bye. They played Lower Cape Crush White in the semifinals, earning a 14-6 victory behind the pitching of Grace Palazesi and a balanced offensive attack.

Sandwich advanced to the Championship game on Aug. 12 vs. the Bourne / Wareham Pride at Sandwich High School. Grace Palazesi pitched, giving up 5 hits over 7 innings in the 5-2 victory. Delanie Corcoran sparked the offense with a 2-run double in the first inning. Kylee Quinn also had 2 hits and scored 2 runs in the game.

The Sandwich U12 team ended the season with an 11-1 record, defending their Cape Cod Girls Softball League title by earning their second championship in as many years.

Sandwich 12As shine in Cooperstown

- Sunday, August 17, 2014

The Sandwich 12A team closed their successful summer in Cooperstown this past week, winning a team skills competition while one of their players was runner-up in another.

Dubbing themselves as The Cape Cod Crush for their week in Cooperstown, the 12A team beat 103 others in the Around the Horn skills competition, a timed throwing contest that incorporates all infield and outfield positions. In the preliminary round, the team earned a time of 20.19 seconds, finishing third. The top 6 make the finals, where the Crush finished first with a time of 22.73 seconds.

In the Road Runner competition, Steve Tanguilig made it to the finals, where he finished second -- by 1/100th of a second.

The team also had a winning record in the tournament, and finished in the top third among the 104 teams participating.

Sandwich Little League Fall Ball registration is now openhttp://www.sll.light.sportspilot.com/Registration.aspx

Sandwich Babe Ruth Fall Ball registration is open

- Wednesday, August 13, 2014

As we reflect on the successes of the 2014 regular season it is time to look forward to launching the 2014 Sandwich Babe Ruth Fall Ball season.

The Sandwich Babe Ruth Fall Ball Program provides our 12-year-old players an opportunity to get acclimated to 60-90 fields while gaining additional instruction from our coaches. Our coaches will also work with our 13- through 15-year-old age groups to further develop their skills.

Team Groupings:

The SBR program will be forming two age group teams: 12/13 age group and the 14/15 age group. This is designed to allow our coaches to target certain development opportunities within the appropriate age groups. Our teams will play similar age groups from surrounding towns that are part of the Gateway Regional Charter.

Get ready for Championship Saturday

- Friday, May 30, 2014

POSTPONED TO JUNE 21 DUE TO WEATHER

Come out and cheer fellow teammates and friends on Championship Saturday, scheduled for June 14. In addition to our traditional National and American League championships, we're expanding our skills competitions to include younger age groups this year.

The day will start at noon, with the AAA skills competition. Players will compete in either the Road Runner, Golden Arm or Home Run Derby competitions. The Road Runner winner will be the player who runs the fastest around the bases, while the Golden Arm will be earned by the player demonstrating the best accuracy on a throw from second base to home. We'll also be installing a temporary fence at a shorter distance for AAA's 9- and 10-year-old players to compete in a Home Run Derby.

At 2, our National League will hold a similar skills competition, followed by our traditional American League competition at 4. Sorry, American Leaguers... you'll have to reach the permanent fence for your home runs.

In between those two leagues' competitions, we'll be handing out our Little Scholar and Bellis Scholarship awards.

The day will culminate in the National League and American League championship games, scheduled for 7 p.m.

Please note that participation in the AAA and National League home run derbies is via coaches' nominations. The American League derby is open only to players from any league who have hit home runs this season. Coaches' nomination is also required for the other National and American League skills competitions, while AAA participation in the Road Runner and Golden Arm is open to all (one skill competition per player). Contact AAA Commissioner Sean Polay for more details.

Calling all Little Scholars

- Saturday, May 17, 2014
It’s time to enter for the 2014 Sandwich Little League Little Scholar Awards. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement, and are intended to encourage Little League players to always do their best on and off the playing fields.

SLL Little Scholar Awards are open to girls and boys in Grades 5 through 9. Award winners will receive trophies with their names on them during the Home Run Derby on Saturday, June 14th.

To enter, just drop off a copy of the player's 3rd term report card at the Concession Stand by Monday, June 2nd. Please include your phone number, league/division played and team name with the report card.

If you have any questions, call Craig Scheuer at 781-330-9418.

Team and Individual Photos Scheduled for May 19, 21 and 22

- Wednesday, May 14, 2014
Team photos for baseball and softball are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. You can find the schedule and a preview of the picture price list from Photos by Sheryl linked from the Forms & Docs page of our Web site in the Coach's Corner section of the page.

Many teams are slotted before or after their games, but some teams on byes or playing on other nights have been scheduled into open slots during the photo sessions.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your team picture to keep things running smoothly.

Hard copies of the schedule and order forms will be available at the concession stand tomorrow and will also be distributed to coaches at the field.

Even if you decide not to order photos, attendance is important. Team photos are given to team sponsors on a plaque to express gratitude for support of the league. We want to make sure the sponsors feel appreciated by as many players as possible.

Please contact Jim Barrasso at jbarrasso@sturgischarterschool.org with any questions.

Calling all volunteers: Field Day is April 7

- Sunday, March 17, 2013
Field Day has been scheduled Sunday, April 7, starting at 9 a.m. This is when the Sandwich Little League board and as many coaches and volunteers as we can muster prepare the fields for the season. Got older kids? Bring them along.

There's field grooming, trash cleanup, hanging of sponsor signs, batting cage repairs, and more to be done at the three Wing School fields. The more people we have, the less time we have to spend out there as a group. Even if you can only come for a couple of hours, it helps.

It's the one heavy-lifting day of the Little League year, but it's also a good chance to get to know your fellow coaches and meet the entire Little League board.

Truth in advertising: A correction to our ad in today's Enterprise

- Friday, February 8, 2013

While it is likely stating the obvious, we want to let you know that the ad in today's Feb. 8th edition of The Sandwich Enterprise is only half correct. The 3rd/4th Grade Basketball Jamboree was cancelled because of the approaching storm, but the decision came yesterday after the deadline by which we could pull or change the ad.

We'll be making an appearance at the rescheduled jamboree on Feb. 16, and we're planning a walk-in registration night, perhaps as soon as next week. Stay tuned for details.

Meanwhile, the part of the ad touting online registration remains correct, and we'd still like you to know that T-ball is now available for the 5-year-old age group. Why go to the Y when you can stay and play in Sandwich?

There's still time to save $20 on 2013 registrations

- Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Discounted registration is still available for a limited time. Register your baseball or softball player by Feb. 3, and save $20 off the regular $100 price.

All registered players ages 5 to 10 are also eligible to participate in a free preseason clinic at Compass Athletics over February vacation. Register your player now and sign up for the clinic by Feb. 17. The clinic for ages 5-7 will be on Feb. 18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and the clinic for ages 8-10 will be on Feb. 21 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Players from the 11- and 12-year-old age groups may also volunteer to help out. Please contact sandwichlittleleague@verizon.net or send us a note through our Facebook page.

Anniversary registration discount extended

- Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Good news: $60 registration pricing for our 60th anniversary season has been extended to Jan. 21. Sign up your baseball and softball players now to take advantage of the savings. After that date the cost goes up to $80, and then to our usual $100 on Feb. 1. Thanks to all who have already signed up. We can't wait for the season to start!

Better news: Any 5- through 10-year-old player registered for the 2013 season is eligible to participate in a FREE preseason clinic over February vacation at Compass Athletics. Stay tuned for sign-up and other details, which will be coming soon. Don't forget that 5- through 7-year-old registrations cost $50 throughout our registration period, so don't delay -- especially if you want your child to join us for a fun baseball tune-up during vacation week.

Sandwich students help athletes affected by Hurricane Sandy

- Tuesday, December 18, 2012
A few students from Sandwich High School are spearheading an effort to help athletes who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. We plan on collecting clean, gently-used or new sporting equipment from the Cape Cod area and sending them to needy families in a few coastal towns in New Jersey. Due to the storm, hundreds of families lost their homes and all of their possessions.  People have been great in donating clothing, food, and other necessary supplies to the disaster victims. This organization's goal, however, is to fill a void and help kids get back to their activities, whether it be basketball, hockey, baseball, lacrosse -- you name it.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. There will be a drop-off location at 23 Jarves Street at Heidi's Gem/Tori Anne's Newsstand. The hours will be 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 22, or by appointment someday after school/work. It is important that the equipment be clean and gently used or new. No clothing please. Check your garages, basements, and attics for anything you are able to donate. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Hannah MacDonald at hannahmacdonald1994@gmail.com.

Opening Day Parade is Sunday, April 26th at noon.  Parade starts at the fire station on Rt 6A and ends at the AL2 field by the concession stand. Parade will be followed by the Opening Day Ceremony on the field, and a hot dog picnic around the gazebo while games get under way.

Practices/Games for Rookie and A ball begin the weekend after the parade. There will be 7 combined practice/games scheduled for Saturday.

Practices for AA and AAA baseball will start in April (exact date will depend on condition of the fields) and games will start the week after the parade. Schedule is still in progress, but expect games each Saturday. AA will have an occasional weeknight game, and AAA will have at least one weeknight game per week, most frequently on Mondays..

All players through Little League age 8 (born in 2007) are assigned to a team and the coaches will contact you within a couple of weeks.

Equipment: Players are provided with game jerseys and hats. Players are responsible for baseball pants, cleats and gloves (not that clears are necessary at the youngest age levels). Batting helmets and bats are provided by the league but you are welcome to bring your own. We do require that the helmets include face masks.

Calendar Raffle: This fundraiser is the biggest opportunity to offset the cost of running the league and keep our fees low. People that purchase a $10.00 calendar raffle tickets are entered into a drawing with a cash prize winner everyday in the month of May. Several days have prizes donated by sponsors.

All players are expected to sell at least one book of 5 tickets for $10 per ticket. Ticket stubs and $50 should be returned to the coach the week prior to the parade. All players that sell their 5 tickets are entered into a drawing for some great prizes at the Opening Day Ceremony. The more books you sell, the more opportunities to win prizes.

Field Day is scheduled for March 28 starting at 8 a.m., though it may be delayed because of the snow still on the fields. Stay tuned for an email update. This is when Sandwich Little League coaches, players and families prepare the facilities for the season. There's trash cleanup, hanging of sponsor signs, batting cage set-up, repairs, and more to be done at the Wing School fields. The more people we have, the less time we have to spend out there as a group. Even if you can only come for a couple of hours, it helps.
